The future of private flight operations software

Our client provides flight planning products and trip support services for business aviation, serving corporate and private flight departments around the globe. Facing an increasing number of competitors, they came to Method with a desire to improve the user experience of their online flight planning tool.

After conducting interviews with company stakeholders, auditing their product offering, and shadowing internal flight operations and trip support teams, we delivered a vision for unifying & growing their existing product offering into the next generation of flight operations management software.

A single interface

Pilots and schedulers rely on a messy patchwork of tools to do their work: up to 15 different websites and softwares just to perform their daily tasks. We brought all of these critical tools and information into one interface to create a seamless experience spanning the entire trip lifecycle.

Workflows over user types

Roles vary across flight departments, but shared tasks seldom do. Our product helps operators complete interdependent workflows, reflecting the real sequence of work, people involved, and the information needed to complete it.

Enabling collaboration for teams

Flight teams rely on each other for expertise, but lack easy ways to work together. Our product enables collaboration at every step with task delegation, messaging, and activity feeds to create transparency around who's doing what.

Leveraging automation to streamline manual processes

By integrating distributed data sources, our tool can suggest complex trip options that save hours of human research and coordination.

Works wherever you do

As a single platform, our product is used everywhere: from the flight operations center to the cockpit. The functionality on each device is tailored to the most relevant workflows.

Immersion

We conducted in-person and remote interviews with 15+ pilots and dispatchers to understand their responsibilities, how they work, their ecosystem of tools, pain points, and opportunities.

Ideation

We synthesized our research through a comprehensive series of workflow maps. These maps outlined all the activities performed within the flight department and set the foundation for our future product experience.

We defined platform capabilities, core use cases, interaction model, and a development roadmap to present to 50+ client stakeholders.
